An endless success story since the early twentieth century, they have become delicious ambassadors of western Liguria throughout the world: Baci di Alassio – “Kisses from Alassio” – were patented in 1919 by Pasquale Balzola, the founder of the Caffè Pasticceria Balzola. A century- old tradition that the fourth generation of the family still upholds today. While settling the bill he had run up at the historical establishment in Alassio, Gabriele D’Annunzio said “your kisses are kisses of gallantry”. A phrase that has become part of the legend of a speciality that is still celebrated today.
