In 1904, mayor and pharmacist Angelo Rainusso opened the doors to what would become far more than just a café: Bar Colombo, a timeless treasure chest where cinema and real life merge in a fascinating intertwining. The splendid wooden boiserie, hand-carved by the Genoese artist Bacigalupo and recently restored to its former glory, transforms the space into a temple of elegance. Nicknamed “the Casablanca of Santa Margherita”, over the decades the venue welcomed illustrious names, from Guglielmo Marconi to Liz Taylor, Rex Harrison to Herbert Von Karajan. Formerly known as “Taverna del Marinaio”, the establishment has gone through different eras and transformations while always remaining true to its authentic soul.
In 2024, Angelo Calvello and Gaetano Girgenti inherited its destiny, restoring its original name: ‘Taverna Colombo’. A return to its origins that promises to reconcile history, culinary excellence and that rare hospitality that only the Ligurian sea can teach.
