The Sperlari shop in Via Solferino is a testament to the history, culture, and people of Cremona. Enea Sperlari, took over a nougat and mustard production company established in 1811, and transformed it into his own successful business. The shop is a 19th- century treasure, beautifully refurbished in 1890 by the renowned cabinetmaker Luigi Guastalli. During its 2011 restoration, stunning late 18th-century frescoed ceilings were uncovered, adding to its historic charm. A supplier to the Royal House of Savoy, it has served illustrious figures such as Queen Mother Margherita in 1921 and Prince Umberto of Piedmont in 1927. The shop has also attracted notable visitors like composers Giuseppe Verdi and Amilcare Ponchielli, painter Carlo Vittori, and sculptor Mario Coppetti. It proudly holds the oldest retail license in the province of Cremona. Among its signature offerings are the famous Mandorlato di Cremona nougat, quince jelly, a variety of mostardas, Senapata preserves, Graffioni (a sweetened syrup), Baci di Cremona (chocolate biscuits), and the delicious Sbrisolosa cake. Today, the shop is run by the third generation of the Cervi-Vittori family.
