The allure of history comes to life in Palermo: a report on the 2026 National Assembly

The National Assembly of Italy’s Historic Venues has come to a close against the splendid backdrop of Palermo.

Three eventful days, from 19 to 21 April, during which the custodians of Italy’s hospitality heritage gathered to discuss the future of the tradition, whilst immersed in the timeless beauty of the Sicilian capital.

A welcome straight out of a bygone era

A welcome straight out of a bygone era: the Grand Hotel Villa Igiea served as the logistical and institutional hub of the entire event, providing accommodation for members and hosting the assembly proceedings in the historic Sala Basile.

The first welcome to the city, however, took place within the walls steeped in history of the Grand Hotel et des Palmes, where a formal aperitif officially opened the gathering, celebrating the Association’s return to a land so rich in cultural layers. From here, a packed programme got underway; setting off each day from the logistical base at Villa Igiea, it took members on a journey of discovery through Palermo’s architectural and gastronomic treasures, including visits to its splendid Cathedral, the Oratory of San Lorenzo and the Monastery of St Catherine.

Between institutional dialogue and wonders

Whilst the morning of 20 April was devoted to the Assembly’s proceedings, the afternoon saw the members setting out to discover the island’s treasures.

The food and wine tour was also a highlight, a true cornerstone of the culture of the Locali Storici. From the authentic flavours of *Casa del Brodo dal Dottore* to the culinary mastery of Maurizio Cascino at *Ristorante La Botte*, right through to the final farewell amidst the iconic aromas of Antica Focacceria San Francesco, which has been in business since 1834.

Awards and Prizes 2026

The Assembly also provided the perfect opportunity to celebrate the excellence of our Members. The 2026 Diploma of Honour was awarded to the venues that hosted this year’s event: the Grand Hotel Villa Igiea, the Grand Hotel et des Palmes, La Botte Restaurant, Casa del Brodo dal Dottore and the Antica Focacceria San Francesco.

The prestigious annual awards were also presented: the Hotel Londra Palace in Venice received the 2026 ‘Beppe Nardini’ Culture Award, whilst the Royal Victoria Hotel in Pisa was awarded the Chessa Prize. This latter award is dedicated to historic establishments that have managed to preserve their identity and originality over time, whilst upholding the continuity of their tradition.

An edition that draws to a close in the spirit of recognition and celebration of our priceless historical heritage.

Partners of Excellence

The success of the 2026 National Assembly was made possible in part thanks to the support of highly prestigious partners – organisations that share our Association’s values of quality, dedication and a love of Italian tradition.

Our heartfelt thanks go to Forst, San Benedetto and Selecteilly: their presence enriched our moments of fellowship and discussion, reaffirming the importance of building networks amongst our country’s leading names.

The Palermo General Meeting proved to be a valuable opportunity to strengthen the bonds between members and plan for future challenges, whilst celebrating history as a living and priceless asset of our country.
