This enchanting, luxurious café-restaurant pastry in the center of the ancient town is in an eclectic-Liberty style, with a romantic balcony overlooking the Valdichiana. The outdoor sign, ceilings, stuccoes, large front windows, doors and windows are all original and it has been returned to its former early-twentieth-century splendour by meticulous restoration. A destination for tourists from around the world, partly for its traditional medieval Tuscan recipes, it was a cultural hub for writers and poets like Carducci, Prezzolini and Malaparte, and it was adored by Pirandello, who found inspiration by observing its patrons, and Fellini.

The Most Art Nouveau

Undulating, dynamic, inspired by nature, beautiful: whether from their original construction or following renovations in the late 19th century, over seventy historic venues in Italy embraced the Art Nouveau style. Here they are, brought together in an ideal itinerary to be explored for the pleasure of a “floral stop.” The research was conducted for the 2013 edition and has become part of the historical and cultural heritage of the Guide and the Association of Historic Venues of Italy.
