For over a hundred years it has been making fettuccine famous throughout the world: it’s the Il Vero Alfredo restaurant in Rome, where the sense of family that has allowed many establishments to survive Italy's history still continues today. Legend has it that Alfredo Di Lelio (better known as Alfredo I) invented the famous fettuccine recipe in 1908 - pasta kneaded in semolina and dressed with butter and Parmesan cheese for his wife Ines, who was weakened after giving birth to their son Armando (better known as Alfredo II). His wife not only ate them with pleasure, but even suggested they be added to the menu of their small restaurant. From there to worldwide success was just a short step.
