The Restaurant Massimo d'Azeglio is amongst the oldest restaurants in Rome, originating from a tavern in Piazza Esquilino, which opened for the Jubilee of 1600. Since 1875, it has been doing business ever since. A few steps from Termini Station, it has been patronized by famous guests such as Pietro Mascagni, General Diaz, the Royal Family of Montenegro, Louis Armstrong and Pier Paolo Pasolini, and has been owned by the Bettoja family for 5 generations. It retains the authentic turn of the century atmosphere, and is decorated with 78 panels by the famous sculptor Alfredo Biagini, a collection of “Risorgimento” portraits and 19th century paintings.
